Alberobello - The Magical City of Trulli
Alberobello is one of the most iconic places in Puglia, famous throughout the world for its trulli, ancient stone houses with conical roofs. Strolling through the narrow streets of the town center means immersing yourself in a fairytale atmosphere, where history, tradition, and architecture come together in a place that is unique in the world and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
A Brief History
The trulli were built between the 14th and 17th centuries as temporary structures made of dry stone, easily dismantled to avoid feudal taxes on dwellings. Over time, they became part of the cultural identity of the Itria Valley. In 1996, Alberobello was recognized as a World Heritage Site for its unique architectural heritage.
